Cllr Daly said it would be a very novel way of bringing local government politics to life for students: “It will facilitate meaningful interaction between participating teenagers and elected councillors in a structured and fun way.Students and politicians alike will learn from this experience where information and views will be exchanged in a style that mirrors speed dating”.

We always make sure there is a balanced ratio of men and women at our events.A number of councillors volunteered to be quizzed by tomorrow’s voters at a special function in County Hall today to coincide with the EU Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.Children from the Cork County Youth Council will first get the opportunity to get involved in a “brainstorming session” with councillors on combating poverty and providing social inclusion.They will then move around tables where they will get an opportunity to further question councillors from different parties about these topics and how they would address them.This year has been designated the EU Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion and the social inclusion division in the Department of Social Protection has agreed a national programme of events, with information on aims and objectives for the year.Cllr Jim Daly, Mayor of Co Cork, will also be participating in the event.
