Sunny Chang, Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Greater China, welcomed the artists to EMI saying: “We are proud to continue EMI China’s enduring legacy through A-Mei, Show and Rainie.

This is the start of a new era for the label and we are excited to bring the music of these well-loved artists to a new generation of fans.” EMI has a long history of supporting artists and music in China.

EMI itself was formed in 1931 through a merger of The Gramophone Company and Columbia Graphophone.

In China Columbia controlled two Chinese labels, The China Record Company and Pathé Orient Ltd, and in 1933 these two companies were merged to form EMI China.

This first incarnation of EMI China remained in operation until the 1950s.

The legendary label EMI is making history once again in China and South East Asia with the signing of Mandopop superstar A-Mei as well as the popular artists Show Lo and Rainie Yang, as part of its revival and return to the region.

The announcement was made at a press conference here today at the launch of the new EMI China.
