So I decided it was time SW had its first gay characters, because it was dumb for such a rich universe like that to be so narrow and unreal.
Due to the design constraints of a fully voiced MMO of this scale and size, many choices had to be made as to the launch and post-launch feature set.
Same gender romances with companion characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic will be a post-launch feature.
First of all, this is definitely not an audience that consists of a 'couple of people' and we're aware of that. Second, it's very important to realize that this is just one of many, many content additions that will be going into the game post launch.
The vast majority of our content will be of interest to the vast majority of our potential audience.
However, one of the amazing things about MMOs is that over time we can get to add things that are exciting and interesting to smaller audiences.
While I haven't counted lately, the thread on the Story & Lore forum, where we are expected to keep to ourselves and not bother normal people, has over 7,500 posts over the past 10 months and over 500,000 views.
That's adding together the original version and the five subsequent versions CS has created when each gets too full. Because that thread has never had a reply, other than one "nothing new I can tell you" from Joveth. I have listed a handful of points they could clarify if they choose to.
But they haven't, and if posting there isn't effective, we are more than happy to post here, in a thread created by a player who Countless? That's as many times as Bio Ware has officially issued any statement on this content. It is over a year old, dating from before launch, stating the position in language that speaks of game launch as a future event, and was written by a man who left the studio five months ago.
I think we can be forgiven for wanting a status update that we don't have to blow dust off of. But seriously, it will happen when it happens until then just make a female type 3 and pretend she is a man and romance other men.
Or make a Male type 1 and pretend he is a girl and romance other girls for the time being.
I mean I know the power of imagination, I pretend I am shooting jelly filled donuts at So A and Karraga and when I play my sorc on those rare occasions I scream UNLIMITED POWAAA! Bioware releases Knights of the old Republic which was initially slated to feature a same-gender romance with the companion Juhani.
Although much of the Juhani arc was removed it remained possible to enter a romance with the character and to learn part of her personal history and the relationship she had with another Jedi who will later fall to the Darkside should Juhani be killed by the player character.
The gay Mandos - like the rest of the Mandalorian cast - are in the series because I think the Star Wars galaxy, with millions of worlds and species, is probably more diverse than just a regular vanilla diet of straight, good-looking, able-bodied white folk with red hair and emerald eyes or whatever.
