Chatroulette is a top class website and now a well-known free video chat website *** JOIN US NOW ***, it still is a pretty recent phenomena of only the last few years it was however started in 2009 by a Russian guy called Andrey Ternovsky, who had been using video chat and came up with an idea to make video chatting more fun and exciting.
was one of the first sites to offer their own service It is totally different to all the other type of video sites we had seen before, you cant even compare it to Skype as you have to have made friends with someone on Skype, before you can chat to them, this was totally different and meant that meeting people just came down to chance.
But before this new random webcamming wave, video chatting and chat rooms sites in general were pretty much the same over, they were mostly java applet type sites, where you could only chat with text only, as more and more people got webcams then more cam style chats opened, there were however chatroulette style sites out there, but they were all text.
In fact this is how started it was firstly just a random chat website text based and had no streaming or video content at all.
As video chatting got more popular then this left a hole for something like chatroulette to come along and dominate this niche, as it is a lot of fun to use, in fact one of the most amazing and funny things happened to me on w I had my tunes playing out loud, up popped a lot of people dressed as Hitler around 8 people, and all started dancing to my music, it was both disturbing and hilarious at the same time, from then I was hooked I also saw Merton singing to people on there.
One of the major good things about chatroulette is its for everyone, straight, gay people bi, lesbians, doesn't matter if your male or female, it doesn't matter when you’re on cam, girls and boys mix all the time even groups of people appear on cam.
I've even seen people in fancy dress, dressed as superhero’s and there is even someone who found fame called Merton, who did lots of chatroulette videos, in which he sang about the person who appears on webcam when they were next-ed to him.
Andrey Ternovsky build the site himself in his bedroom, which shows anyone out there you can create a unique concept and idea and build it yourself, apparently it cost around ,000 or around £6500 to build and started with around 20 users at first and just spread by the best bit of marketing that is word of mouth, friends passing it onto their friends, before he knew it there were too many people on the site, causing him to have to re-code the site with some kind of load management, as they had so many users on the site it was causing it to go down.
He went on to have 4 programmers helping him code the chat roulette, and within a month they had gone up to 50,000 people from 500.However it did take advantage of the change in hardware and software, with faster web-servers and better flash type peer to peer software, which allows sites that provide video content to stream better without using too much bandwidth. All of this is free and there was no registration required at all, which means you don’t need an email address, just a computer a webcam and an internet connection, which makes it very simple to get involved as you can just load the website and be chatting within mins.It has all since evolved into a free site with some pay options where you can pay to buy credits to use on which ensures you can meet girls on there, however it also means its easier to get banned on there and also you have to talk to users for a set amount of time to unlock your webcam, this is an attempt to try to stop people being next-ed as often as they seem to do now.I became aware of 2011 and I was a bit obsessed myself for a little while, I decided to create my own style of software so people could do the Chat roulette on wocchat, there was some software available via Flashcoms which was very good at first but had some issues so I dont use this anymore.Wocchats own style of video chat application went live in 2012 and was very successful for a long time, however it was plagued by load issues and abuse issues I had to swap servers so many times and also had to hire extra staff, which made it more difficult to support so i went on to discontinue it shortly after this as I could not find a reliable way to ban people we are now a partner of who support our site.
